Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is firmly committed to the $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, Nigerian Senator Jimoh Ibrahim announced Wednesday during the African Parliament Union’s executive session in Casablanca.

Ibrahim said the project is a top priority for Tinubu, who is reviewing stalled infrastructure initiatives to accelerate their completion. «This project is expected to create thousands of jobs, boost industrial and digital development, and contribute to a more sustainable energy future for the participating countries», he explained.

The Morocco-Nigeria pipeline project is gaining further momentum with significant recent funding support from the United Arab Emirates. Other major financiers include the European Investment Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, and the OPEC Fund. The Chinese company Jingye Steel has secured the contract to supply materials for the pipeline.

The initiative aims to diversify export routes, reduce gas flaring, and transform the regional energy landscape. The United States has also expressed interest in investing in the project.

Morocco has completed feasibility and engineering studies for the 5,660 km pipeline, which will pass through 13 African countries. First gas deliveries are expected by 2029. A joint venture between Rabat and Abuja has been formed to oversee the project’s implementation.
