From the sidelines, Moroccan international Oussama El Azzouzi savored FC Bologna’s historic Italian Cup victory on Wednesday, as his team defeated AC Milan 1-0 at Rome’s Olympic Stadium. The win marks Bologna’s first Coppa Italia title in 51 years, following previous triumphs in 1970 and 1974.

The decisive goal in the final of the 78th edition of the Coppa Italia came from Swiss striker Dan Ndoye in the 53rd minute. Bologna’s head coach, Vincenzo Italiano, expressed his joy post-match: «We’ve faced our share of disappointments, but this victory is well-deserved. We played a great match, and our supporters deserve this title», he told AFP.

«I’ve personally experienced three major disappointments, and I didn’t expect to get my revenge so quickly», added Italiano, who joined Bologna last July after losing three finals with Fiorentina.

This victory is expected to further motivate Italiano’s squad as Bologna eyes European ambitions. With Juventus—the record holder with 15 titles—crowned in 2024, the Emilian club now rises to the top of Italian football, securing its spot in the group stage of next season’s Europa League.

The win also marks a new chapter for Oussama El Azzouzi, who took bronze with Morocco’s U23 team at the 2024 Olympics. With Bologna’s recent resurgence, the club looks poised to compete among Italy’s elite.
